| **Special Note** If you would like me to email you personally with the answer to your question, simply leave your email address with your question in the Question Form Box. In addition... I'm sorry, but you WILL NOT see negative things about other catteries, breeders, or their procedures and/or practices on this site. What some feel is the 'correct' way to do things, MANY others do not! |

| Q: At what age do your kittens go to their new homes? A: Typically, our kittens are ready at 12 weeks. Occasionally, we have one that's ready around 10 weeks, but that's judged on an individual basis. It's important to us that they spend the much needed time with their Mothers and also have time to become well-socialized and used to all the animals, kids and various noises in the environment. Q: What is your favorite color Persian or Himalayan? A: What a GREAT question! I love them all, but if I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would have to be... Any Lynx Point! I think they're absolutely stunning! I will soon be adding that pattern to my lines and will be producing some breathtaking Lynx Point Himalayan 'purrbabies' in the near future! Q: Who was your first breeder? A: Sadie, my seal pt! My husband bought her for me for an anniversary gift! By the way....our first cat, however, was Coty our neutered, domestic long hair! Q: Do you vaccinate against Felv & FIV? A: NO! We DO NOT vaccinate against those diseases! There are far too many adverse reactions to them, however, we do feel it's necessary to test for them. Every breeder we have has been tested and had negative results. Additionally, any time we bring a new cat or kitten into our home, it's kept separate from all the other animals until it has been vet-checked and has been tested for Felv & FIV. This ensures the health and safety of all our felines! Q: What is the difference between the Doll-Faced & Extreme Persians? A: The Doll-Faced Persians have a longer nose than the extremes. The extremes are the CFA standard and are the cats you see at shows with the flatter faces. Q: What is your goal in your breeding program? A: Our goal is to get as close to CFA standard as we can, but still having the longer nose. We also like the nose placement lower than what the 'Standard' calls for. We realize this will take some time, but ultimately, it's the look we're striving for! Q: Do you work with other breeders? A: Absolutely!! I work closely with several other breeders. If I don't have a certain color available that someone wants and they do, I wouldn't hesitate to refer someone to them, in fact, I've done it many times! Q: Are there any breeders you would recommend? Ones you wouldn't? A: Definitely!! The breeders on my links page under 'Our Favorite Breeders' are the ONLY breeders I recommend! Ones I wouldn't...of course, but I will not put negative things on this website about other breeders. This is a place to enjoy our 'precious purrbabies' and have fun, not a place to 'slander' each other. Q: Which sex is the more loving of the two? A: In my experience, it's usually the males that are the more loving ones, but there is always an exception to that rule! Lacey, Tazia and Kira are definitely the exception! They are three of the most loving females I have ever seen!! Now don't get me wrong, the females are also loving...but on their terms. They'll let you know when they want to be loved on..and when they don't! I feel a lot of it has to do with them getting the proper socialization as kittens, that's another reason why we don't allow our kittens to leave until they're 10 - 12 weeks old! Q: Do you have more breeders than you show on your site? A: ABSOLUTELY NOT! Every breeder I have is on my site, either on the Our Cats page or the Future Breeders page. I do not believe in 'hiding' certain breeders or trying to show that I have less than I actually have by not putting every one of them on my site. What you see is what I have, no more... no less. Q: Why do you keep your cattery small instead of having more breeders? A: My main reason is for the care of my cats. I don't see how ANYONE can properly take care of an overly abundant amount of felines unless, of course, they have extra help. There is so much involved in breeding than what most people realize. It is NOT just putting two cats together and ending up with kittens... there's grooming, nail trimming, bathing, playing with, socializing, deworming, vet appointments, etc, not to mention if there are problems with the birth or a kitten that has to be hand-raised or supplemented. Secondly, in cattery situations, things happen, kittens get sick, breeders get sick, earmites are very common in Persians. You have to treat ALL your felines, which can be quite expensive, and for myself, I want to make sure that I am financially secure enough to treat everyone if the worse happens. Finally, socialization from day one of our purrbabies is VERY important to us. We love these kitties with all our hearts and just want them to live happy, healthy lives on someone's lap. Q: What are your feelings on declawing? A: NO, NO, NO! As far as I am concerned, along with any ethical breeder, declawing is a form of mutilation and has been outlawed in many countries. During the declawing procedure, the veterinarian removes the third bone and attached nail which is like someone removing the upper part of your fingers to the first knuckle. Here is a link to an actual surgery, but be warned, it's very graphic, but will give you a new perspective on declawing and why it should be outlawed here in the USA also. Important: Graphic Pictures Pictures of a Declawing Procedure Q: How do I get my kitten to stop clawing my furniture...he's tearing it apart! A: First and foremost, it's important to realize that it's a cats natural instint to scratch, regardless if it has been declawed or not. It's basically like redirecting a child. You'll need a scratching post or something that he can scratch. Everytime he goes to scratch your furniture, you tell him, "NO!" and move him to his scratching post or designated scratching area. And I mean EVERY TIME! It will take a while but he will get used to it, and understand where he is and is not to scratch. This also works for adult cats. My beautiful Cream Persian, Tazia, was never taught not scratch furniture, so needless to say, she tore apart my couch ends. I worked with her, showed her where it was ok to scratch, and now she only scratches on the scratching post or cat tree. So you see, they can be taught even if they are adults. It just takes a little time and persistence. Q: Do you enjoy working on your website? A: OOOH yes, I enjoy it very much. I try to keep it updated and different from others. Sometimes it's hard to keep your website 'unique', but I do try very hard to keep mine looking and sounding different than others... be it with my words, pictures, slide shows or the recently added music. Thank you to EVERYONE for all the lovely emails and compliments on my site! Q: Where are you located? A: We're in Ohio. Lived here all our lives. Q: How did you and your husband meet? A: We met in high school. I was a senior, he was a junior. We've been together ever since..... April 1987! Yep... I'm older, and he NEVER lets me forget it! He's the love of my life, and I thank God for him and my sons everyday! Q: What do you do with your breeders, once you have spayed or neutered them? A: Ideally, they just live here with us as pampered pets. They all already sleep with us and are part of our family, so we would love to keep each and every one of them. But, their health and happiness is what matters most to us. If I feel one of my retired breeders would be happier as a cherished pet outside of a Cattery environment, I will find it the 'purrfect forever home', and have had to do exactly that with our beautiful Seal Point Female, Sadie. Of course, it will and did break my heart, but their happiness is what matters most to me! Q: Which cats are more of a family animal, which cat is nicer to have when you have kids, Persians or Himalayans? A: As far as temperments of Persians and Himalayans, I really don't find any difference between the two. I have both, of course, and all my cats are loving, gentle felines. They all love to be petted and loved on and also enjoy playing... especially with balls and feather ticklers. I have two sons and don't see any difference at all in the way the cats react to them or the way the boys react to the cats. So, my opinion is that they are both the same. Whichever one you prefer, Persian or Himalayan, is the one to choose. You'd be happy either way! Q: I have a Lilac Point Himalayan, about 15 months old. I was given her by a friend who was very ill and unable to care for her. The cat was left almost all the time alone, and she would hide all the time, and she wouldn't let anyone pet or pick her up and was scared of her own shadow. Now she is becoming more sociable, playful and I now can pick her up, etc. I have been spending a lot of time with her, but she never purrs at all. She really has me confused as I thought all cat's purr. Thanks for having this site, and I will look forward to your answer. A: First of all, I have to commend you!!! That is the EXACT reason why socialization is sooooo important, and why it's also critical to keep the kittens with their mom and siblings for longer than 8 weeks! This girl just needs time to adjust to her new surroundings and time to learn to trust you. With cats, you have to earn their trust, and I don't think she has much with all she has been through, but you are doing a terrific job in bringing her 'out of her shell'. It's wonderful that you can now pick her up, it shows how far she has already come! As far as purring..... Cats purr for different reasons, not only when they are happy, but also scared, threatened, and sometimes even during birth. Most people associate purring with happiness. I feel if you just give her the time she needs, keep doing what you're doing, she'll trust you even more and come to love you... then the purring for love and happiness will begin. She'll probably end up being a 'purr-box'! Just give her the time she needs, don't push her or rush things along... she's been through a lot and not used to the human contact or attention and love of another! You're doing a terrific job... Keep up the good work! Q: Sairri is the ABSOLUTE most beautiful Seal Lynx Point Himalayan I have ever seen. I have not found one prettier than her ANYWHERE on the Internet, Doll-Faced or CFA Standard, and I think I've looked at every site out there! When will you start taking Kitten Applications for her litters? A: Thank you so much for your kind comments on Sairri! We simply adore her and think she is beautiful too, although we are a bit biased! LOL I will be adding the Lynx colors to the Kitten Application soon, with a notation that they will not be available till 2005 since she is just a kitten and will not be bred till she has had her first heat and is over a year old! I'll keep an eye out for your application! |
